Remember & Write With Me

In 2024 I started writing a monthly series called So I Won’t Forget where I capture three things I wanted to remember from the previous month. Written memoir-style about mostly my own little life, this has been a means for me to practice what I preach—that remembering can be a transformative spiritual discipline that anchors us to God’s good work in the world.

The feedback has been delightful. Every month I’ve relished in the seemingly random responses that have floated my way either by comments, texts, or simply bumping into someone dear at a coffee shop. It seems this practice was resonating with readers.

And the practice certainly impacted me. I found that my eyes and ears became attuned to ordinary and beautiful things—a budding hostas in my garden, funny reflections from my kids, the kindness of a neighbor. I felt buoyed by this little rhythm that God was using to bear fruit.

This year I’m welcoming other writers into the process for a new project called So We Won’t Forget.

I’ll compile 3-5 mini-essays from fellow writers and share them collectively to readers. So many of you have told me you’d like to begin your own rhythm of remembering—this is the place to start. If you’d like to participate, please review the submission guidelines below and reach out with any questions. The submission window will stay open until otherwise posted here.

Guidelines for Submissions

  • 1-2 mini-essays (500 words or less please) capturing something you want to remember from the month.

  • Written memoir-style and story-driven about your real life. Examples linked below.

  • Submit to me via email (emily@emilycurzon.com) in a Google Doc. Please allow editing privileges before sending.

  • Please let me know if this work has been published elsewhere so I can include the appropriate canonical disclaimer.

  • Selected pieces will be published via We Have This Hope with authors linked in the byline and post. I’ll reach out with details about the best ways to share so that authors retain credit for their work and can cross-post accordingly (think old blog-hopping days).

Tips to Get You Started….things I’ve actually done.

  • Take pictures on your phone when something catches your attention. You can go back to your camera roll when it’s time to put pen to page.

  • Open a note on your phone that you continuously use for little observations. This method is perfect if you need to capture something written or said.

  • Take 3 minutes before you go to bed to take inventory of your day and write something down. You might even set an alert on your phone to prompt you.

  • Ask yourself good questions. What stands out from this week like a scene in a movie? What made my emotions rise and fall? What happened that connects to other themes in my life right now?

  • Pray that God would bring to mind the things you cannot see that warrant truly seeing. Inhale…You who see all things. Exhale…Give me eyes to see You.
